Mission & Vision Statement
The Schiller Park Division of Emergency Management and Preparedness is responsible for coordinating the local emergency/disaster preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation efforts of the Village of Schiller Park. It is our mission to insure that the Village will be adequately prepared to deal with natural or technological emergencies and disaster causes, to preserve the lives and property of the people of Schiller Park and protect the public peace, health, and safety in the event of an emergency/disaster.
The Division develops, reviews and promulgates the Village Emergency Operations Plan. We direct the emergency management activities throughout the Village with the assistance of the Emergency Management Team during a local state of emergency. We also administer the implementation and administration of the Local Emergency Planning and Community Right-To-Know Act program.
Emergency Management is the four-phase protection process of coordinating resources to deal with emergencies effectively, thereby saving lives and minimizing economic loss. The Division of Emergency Management and Preparedness is involved in an all-hazards approach to assist in community preparedness. The four components are mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. Emergency Management is a coordinated response to an unusual emergency situation; a response that calls for maximum use of community resources, with far greater need for coordination between response agencies than usually exists.
Emergency Management is a vital link in a network of services, which makes it possible for natural disasters and large-scale emergencies to be mitigated and dealt with effectively. The job of this department is to assist in all natural and man-made disaster situations when the village has exhausted its immediately available local and mutual aid resources, and when there is potential for immediate or long range danger to life or property. Terrorism planning has also been added to this office in response to the events of September 11, 2001 and other terrorist activity throughout the world.
The goal of the Schiller Park Division of Emergency Management and Preparedness is to educate the Citizens of Village of Schiller Park about their ongoing role in preparing for emergencies through education, community outreach and training. Through creating an increased emphasis on disaster preparedness, the Village of Schiller Park Emergency Management and Preparedness Division looks forward to reinforcing interdepartmental communications and cooperation throughout our Village by creating a community culture of preparedness and fostering partnerships with local, public and private groups and businesses, it is our goal that Village of Schiller Park will work as community, with neighbor helping neighbor, when a disaster strikes.
