Do Not Put Your Leaves in the Street

The Village reminds residents that they are not allowed, per Village ordinance, to put their leaves in the street.

The Village law against placing your leaves in the street is to prevent sewer blockages and to permit street cleaning. Leaves piled in the street can eventually end up in the sewer system and cause blockages that can lead to flooding of the street. Large piles of leaves can also impede efficient street sweeping and cost the Village money in extra sweeping costs and disposal fees. It is for these important reasons that residents are prohibited from placing their leaves in the public street. Keep in mind that this rule also applies to residents that utilize landscapers, so if you use one you need to direct them to comply with this ordinance.

The Village provides free removal of yard waste (including leaves) during the spring, summer, and fall by our waste hauler, Flood Brothers. All residents have the option of using: (1) clearly marked garbage cans (stickers for the cans are available for free at the Village Hall) or (2) biodegradable paper yard waste bags for this pickup. Both of these options are picked up on Fridays as part of the weekly yard waste pickup, which lasts until late November.
