HAZ-MAT INCIDENTS:            Stone Park had an incident on March 25, 2004 involving a

Clandestine Methamphetamine drug lab. The team was called out and remained on the scene from 01:30 hours to 12:00 hours the following day. The DEA was called out to investigate. The team remained on stand by as requested by  DEA, while the scene was mitigated by a clean up Company. This was a precautionary move in the event something went wrong.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

S.O.G.:

None.

TRAINING:

The Chlorine drill held in Broadview last month was informative and well attended. Mt. Prospect has expressed an interest in scheduling another drill with our division team, possibly to hold a rail car drill.

This month’s drill will be a full scale drill in Franklin Park at the U.S. Tobacco factory on April 21, 2004 @ 0900 hours.

Per OSHA regulations, a fit test needs to be done for all team members. A suggestion was made to use current F.D. fit tests. There was a question if this was acceptable and if previous tests are compatible. Norwood Park offered to supply equipment to complete our own testing in house. Lt. Alan Budnik will look into this matter and give us a report next meeting.

VEHICLE/EQUIPMENT:

Melrose Park has the vehicle check this month.

The team will receive a Decon tent and trailer shortly.

Sonya Thompson of FMD is testing all Level A suits. The next scheduled testing will be done in June, 2004.

The Guardian BTA will come back soon from servicing and calibration.

Squad 749 will have additional shelving installed for storage. A water heater and conveyer belt are under consideration for installation.

The generator needs to have a fuel shut off valve installed to prevent flooding of unit. This is an ongoing problem that needs addressing.

We received an inventory list from the state which provides minimum requirements for equipment. We meet or exceed virtually all equipment obligations.

EMS:

Anyone interested in becoming an entry-level member, please contact Sonya Thompson at the Maywood Fire Department (Red Shift). We are looking to get more entry-level members on our team.  The only prerequisite is that you must have completed Tech level.

If you already have a department physical, you need to send a copy to Concentra and a copy of the letter stating you’re qualified as a firefighter, to me.  When Concentra completes their end of the physical requirements, they will send a copy of the letter stating so, to me.  The two letters together make your HAZ-Mat Physical.

Team members need to contact Concentra to renew their entry physical. Contact Agnes at Concentra, 847-451-7590. You don’t need permission to go there for a physical. They won’t send full physicals back.

All physicals are good for a two-year period.

Joe Messino will submit a written report to our meetings for review.

OLD BUSINESS

Paul Feldman will be putting out a list of the IFSI classes available for those interested to attend. Contact D.C. Feldman if you want to attend a class.

NEW BUSINESS

Applications for the Haz-Mat sector of the USAR team are being accepted. If anyone is interested you can submit an application to Jerry Page.
