Fire Department to Begin Hydrant Flushing May 1st

Fire Department Patch.JPG

The Schiller Park Fire Department will begin hydrant flushing and flowing beginning May 1st. The purpose for the Fire Department flushing the hydrants is to ensure that they are working properly. Flushing and flowing fire hydrants exercises the valves, cleans out any possible debris or accumulation that may be in the barrel of the hydrant and identifies any potential repairs that will be forwarded to the Public Works Department.

You will also notice that the fire hydrants have Blue reflective tape on the barrel, collar or bonnet. The reflective tape is an indicator for the fire department during evening/night hours when locating a hydrant in the dark is more difficult. If you notice that a hydrant near you is in need of having the reflective tape replaced, please contact Lt. Budnik at (847) 678-5136.

This year we will also be adding a yellow tag to hydrants. These tags will indicate to the fire personnel information on when the hydrant was flushed, flowed and other pertinent details related to that fire hydrant.
