Step 1: Log Into the Neptune Portal/ Water 360

Step 2: Look at your monthly usage over the past year

  • Look at your monthly water usage. If your usage has gone up and stayed consistently at a high level without your household increasing the use of water, it might signal an internal leak.
    • To check if your bill is abnormally high, call Amy for a consultation.
  • Check the water rates to see if the price has increased.
  • What is an internal leak?
    • An internal leak is a form of plumbing leak where water is continuously running through your meter without being initiated by the household user. These leaks are often slow and hard to identify. Most times it is a constant running pipe like a toilet that is constantly running water.
    • These leaks often occur without the signature signs of leaks like pooling water or molding smells.

Step 3: Identify the Leak

  • Village Hall offers Complementary Toilet Leak Test Strips
    • Toilets are the most likely source of a leak and can run water without showing signs of a leak like pooling water.
    • Please stop by the Village Hall at 9526 W Irving Park Rd and take one bag of test strips per toilet in the household.
  • Instructions
    • Step 1: Remove the tank lid from your toilet
    • Step 2: Open the test strip bag and drop BOTH strips into the tank.
    • Step 3: Replace the lid on the Tank and for best use, do not flush it until the morning
    • Step 4: Check the next day. If the toilet bowl water is blue, it shows there is a leak.

Step 4: Call a Plumber

  • If the Water Turned Blue, you have a for sure leak in your toilet CALL A PLUMBER! Just remember that this does not guarantee that there is no leak in any other part of the house, but a plumber can help you check for other leaks.
  • If your water does not turn blue and you still believe you do not have a leak, please call Amy and she can send someone to check your water meter and discuss next steps.
