Wild Animal Trap Loan Usage Regulations
Policy Statement: The Village in cooperation with Leyden Township offers wild animal traps to Village residents to use within prescribed parameters as determined by Illinois Department of Natural Resources ("IDNR"). Residents who do not follow the standards set forth in this policy will not be permitted to participate in the trap loan program. The program is usually offered only between April and October each year -- the exact start and end times of the program are determined by Leyden Township.
Procedure: Animal traps are delivered on Mondays only and are available on a first-come first-served basis. Residents may request an animal trap to be delivered to their residence. Requests can be made at any time through the Village’s online animal trap request form, or by visiting the Village Hall or by calling the Village at (847) 678-2550 during normal business hours. Traps that are requested by 4:00 PM on Friday will be delivered by the end of the day the following Monday whenever possible. In the rare instance that a trap is not delivered on Monday (perhaps due to a holiday) the trap will likely be delivered on Tuesday. If a requested trap is not delivered by the end of the day on Monday or Tuesday the resident should call the Village Hall to check on the status of their request.
The resident is responsible for properly placing and setting the trap and its security. Residents assume the responsibility for replacement of the trap in the case of loss and the resident will be billed accordingly. Once an animal is trapped the resident must call the Village at (847) 678-2550 for pick up and removal. Village staff will need to know the name, address, phone number, and type of animal that has been trapped. Leyden Township will be informed and will then come by and retrieve the animal and trap. Under no circumstances should the resident dispose of any trapped animal on their own. The request for pick up must be within 24 hours of the animal becoming trapped. If by Thursday at 5:00 pm of the same week that the trap was delivered (loaned) to the resident there is no animal in the trap it will be removed by a Village representative on Friday of that same week. The resident must leave the trap by their driveway, or other location where Village staff can easily find it, for a Friday pickup. The resident may request the trap again for the following week, however, since traps are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis a trap may not be available depending on demand.
